Crunchy Cat, whose real name is Luna, is a female tabby-and-white cat from Greece, born on May 30, 2019. She first appeared on TikTok in 2020, where her unusually expressive face, funny poses, and love of food began attracting attention.
Luna earned the nickname “Crunchy Cat” because of the wonderfully loud CRUNCH she makes while eating dry food. Her most important moment came on July 28, 2022, when her owner posted a close-up video of Luna enthusiastically crunching food.
The clip became hugely popular and eventually turned Luna into a recognizable internet meme.
Then things really took off in 2023. A green-screen CapCut template featuring Luna crunching was created, allowing people to place her in ridiculous situations—often depicting her happily eating things that absolutely should not be eaten, from marbles to uranium.
